Beetroot Raita Recipe

Beetroot is a very healthy vegetable, offenly served in the form of salad or cooked vegetable. Beetroot is a rich source of potent antioxidants, nutrients and fiber. Beetroot in the form of beetroot raita serves as a very healthy diet. Beetroot raita is also known as Chukandar ka raita.

Ingredients for Beetroot raita:

1 cup yogurt (dahi)
1 potato, boiled
1 Beetroot (Chukandar)
1 t-spoon sugar
1 small green chilly, finely chopped
1/2 t-spoon mustard seeds (Raai ka dana)
salt to taste (optional, if you want a sweet raita then don't add salt)
1/4 t-spoon black pepper (Kali mirch)
1/2 cup water
1 t-spoon vegetable oil


How to make Beetroot raita:

  • Peel the Beetroot and potato, chop potato into small cubes and chop beetroot very fine
  • Take a medium sized bowl and add yogurt to it. Mash it with a blender or madani until it gets smooth. Add water and remaining ingredients except Beetroot, potato, oil and mustard seeds, again mix them well. Now add Beetroot and potato to it and mix it again.
  • Take oil in a small pan and put it over low heat, after a minute add mustard seeds, when they crackle, turn off the heat. Now add it to Beetroot raita and mix it well.
  • Refrigerate Beetroot raita for 1/2 hour. Serve chilled
